When we learned that the Mobile, Ala. office of West Asset Management (WAM) had started an annual tradition of honoring American soldiers around Memorial Day, we knew that there was potential for a story. But the details made for a moving piece that the insideARM readership really enjoyed.

The office formally recognizes a local military member that was killed in action in the two wars currently being waged (“Alabama Collection Agency Shows Appreciation for Soldiers’ Sacrifice,” June 5). The company brings in members of the soldier’s family for a ceremony and presents them with a recognition plaque. The honoree is permanently memorialized on a wall set up in the WAM office.

As most readers pointed out, at a time when the debt collection industry is being portrayed in such a negative light, it’s nice to see that some operations out there sincerely try to make themselves a part of their communities. The whole industry should take note and follow the lead of those companies.
