Plymouth Meeting, PA – On Thursday, July 14, 2005, Strategic BCP conducted a free teleseminar on the Business Continuity Planning (BCP) standards contained within guidelines published by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), a Federal agency under the U.S. Department of Commerce, Technology Administration. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has indicated that NIST guidelines on Business Continuity Planning will be the authoritative standard against which potential vendors will be judged as a part of the selection process of its private collection agency (PCA) initiative.

The call was presented by Strategic BCP President Frank Perlmutter, a nationally renowned expert on Business Continuity Planning and a former standards developer, contracting officer, risk management advisor, and auditor for the U.S. Department of Treasury’s Financial Management Service.

Topics covered on this one-hour conference call included an overview of NIST guidelines and what it will take collection agencies to comply. The call also covered differences between NIST and other industry standards such as ISO and PPMS.

Commenting on the call, one industry veteran who preferred not to be named commented, “I for one have to admit I didn’t realize how complicated business continuity planning really was. We have a good plan now, but it’s clearly time for us to take another look at what we’re doing based on all of this.”
