A trade group for community banks urged the U.S. Congress this week to force credit unions to disclose more information about their operations and make some of the larger credit unions subject to federal tax.


The group, America’s Community Bankers, argued in a letter to the chairman of the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee that credit unions offer the same services as community banks but enjoy a competitive advantage due to exemptions from some financial disclosures and federal taxation.
