McKesson announced that its Revenue Cycle Outsourcing business unit and Brigham & Women’s Physician Organization were recently named as the 2007 “Best Healthcare Partnership” in the distinguished Outsourcing Excellence Awards. The companies were cited for the “partnering mindset” in their outsourcing relationship, which began in 2002.

The Outsourcing Excellence award recognizes a dynamic outsourcing partnership between an outsourcing firm and one of its clients. Winners are selected by a panel of industry experts, who conduct a rigorous review of all components of the applicant’s relationship and outcomes achieved. Applicants for the coveted Outsourcing Excellence award, along with their client partners, complete an extensive survey and participate in interviews. A panel then selects the winners based on a review of the data. The annual awards are co-sponsored by Everest Group and Forbes.

With more than 30 years of experience delivering comprehensive solutions and services across the continuum of care, McKesson’s offerings span the entire physician practice, whether in the hospital or practice setting. These solutions automate clinical and administrative processes to equip physicians with the information they need to improve patient care, as well as help them to better manage the business aspects. With market-leading assets, expertise and knowledge, McKesson’s Revenue Cycle Outsourcing business unit offers a complete, best-practices approach to help organizations improve operational efficiency and financial performance. McKesson’s business consultants, regulatory specialists and approximately 450 certified coders possessing specialty-specific reimbursement expertise guide over 17,000 physician customers through the business complexities of healthcare to help increase revenue and decrease costs.

The Department of Surgery outsourced its medical billing to McKesson in 2002. The two organizations forged a unique partnership that worked together through consultation and collaboration to train and assist staff at both organizations to address unique business challenges. Ultimately, through mutual respect and application of best practices, the Department of Surgery exceeded its performance objectives set at the beginning of the relationship. “Together, we developed a plan to achieve improvements in operational efficiency, which allowed us to reinvest in quality patient-care initiatives,” says David Francis, BWH’s Department of Surgery’s Director of Billing Operations and Compliance.

“This award is testament to the commitment and dedication of our employees in helping our customers manage the business of healthcare,” said Pat Leonard, vice president and general manager, Revenue Cycle Outsourcing Solutions, McKesson Provider Technologies. “Our relationship with Brigham and Women’s Department of Surgery exemplifies our consultative approach and why we enjoy lasting partnerships that bring about continued improvement and excellence in customer service. Combined with a command of best practices and specialty expertise, we are proud of our team and the integrity they bring to their work on a daily basis.”
