A couple of former selectmen Monday night attempted to freshen memories in the absence of board minutes defining the intent of the board of selectmen when putting in place ambulance billing fees in 1995.

A new policy takes a harder line on the collection of fees and pursuing costs that are not covered by insurance plans for ambulance transportation. The plan put in place Monday evening by selectmen would turn over delinquent collections after three notices from Coastal Medical Billing, the agency retained to bill patients using the service, to the tax collector’s office.

The new policy also allows delinquent payments to be turned over to a collection agency while those with unpaid bills would be denied certain town privileges (not including medical services). Those privileges include issuance of beach and transfer stickers and even building permits.
