Craneware, Inc., a leading supplier of chargemaster management and revenue cycle management software solutions, today announced that UHS of Delaware, Inc., the management subsidiary of Universal Health Services, Inc. and one of the largest hospital management companies in the U.S., has purchased the Chargemaster Toolkit™ suite of products for use at its 22 acute care facilities in nine states.

Previously, UHS managed the charge description master (CDM) manually, which made it difficult to maintain a standard CDM for all of its facilities.

“Investing in Craneware’s software will help us optimize our revenue and reimbursement, improve operations and fully automate CDM management,” said Maribeth Jenquine, director of patient financial services at UHS. “The software enables us to keep up with constantly changing regulations and maintain a detailed audit trail for numerous acute care facilities and users nationwide.”

Craneware’s Online Reference Toolkit, which is part of the software package, will allow multiple staff members to access resource information, ensuring that all individuals who need to be involved in the coding process are kept up-to-date. The integrated system also keeps hospital personnel abreast of changes and provides a complete audit trail, making it easy to review the decision process behind any changes after they are made.

“With the Online Reference Toolkit, we can eliminate the use of reference manuals, which can be both cumbersome and time-consuming,” said Jenquine. “Our staff can now access the data with a click of a mouse from anywhere within our facilities, saving a significant amount of time.”

The Chargemaster Toolkit is a complete software package for chargemaster management, providing a more efficient way for CDM managers to maintain accurate and up-to-date codes, manage the CDM across the enterprise and support regulatory compliance. The system includes an Active Code Book feature and a browser-based, easily accessible cross-reference tool that allows users to research coding, regulations and pricing information.

“We are delighted that UHS chose Craneware’s revenue cycle software to better manage their chargemaster, coding and auditing processes,” said Jim Wilson, Craneware’s executive vice president. “With the scalability that our solutions offer, UHS can optimize revenue at its broad range of facilities, which include a variety of bed sizes and patient services.”
