Ben Bernanke, U.S. President George W. Bush’s pick to head the Federal Reserve, will likely be handily confirmed by the Senate for the post, a key Senate Democrat said on Thursday after meeting with the nominee.

“I told him I would support him at the end of the meeting. I think he’s going to be an outstanding Fed chairman. I think he is in the mold of (current Fed Chairman) Alan Greenspan,” New York Sen. Charles Schumer told reporters after the meeting. “I think he’s going to have an easy confirmation.”
