The numbingly unglamorous collection of overdue bills will be dissected today in Lincoln Park, in what could be the opening of a wide-ranging investigation into the practices of a Southfield attorney or a case of overheated flapdoodle.


Chief Judge David Bajorek of the 25th District Court has leveled 311 charges of misdemeanor criminal contempt against Howard Alan Katz, alleging he filed hundreds of falsified documents in collection cases.


Bajorek appointed special prosecutor John Gillooly to investigate allegations that Katz falsely claimed collection notices had been served for outstanding bills.
