New York-based consumer watchdog Inner City Press/Fair Finance Watch announced yesterday that it will fight the recently announced merger between Capital One and North Fork Bancorp, according to a story by Reuters.

In a statement, the group said that it is opposed to the merger because of “lending disparities, consumer abuse in Capital One’s credit card marketing and lending and both banks’ enabling of high cost fringe finance.”
