LighthouseMD, a provider of revenue cycle management, integrated practice management and EMR solutions for medical groups, today announced the immediate availability of CareTracker EMR. The Web-based electronic medical records system allows physicians and nurses to enhance patient care and reduce medical errors using more than 270,000 clinical data elements such as patient symptoms, medical histories, diagnoses, clinical tests and therapies.

CareTracker EMR enables clinicians to create an individual medical record for each patient through its point-and-click system. Tasks such as tracking medication history or drug interaction, accessing lab reports or electronically filling prescriptions can now be done online through CareTracker EMR’s network. Physicians and nurses can also record structured and customized notes, review previous patient visits and research symptoms or diagnoses using a PC or handheld device.

“The day-to-day management of a medical practice presents a variety of challenges — both administrative and clinical,” said Russell Keene, chief executive officer, LighthouseMD. “CareTracker EMR fully integrates with both the practice management and revenue cycle management aspects of CareTracker, so information from patients and providers is easily captured and routed, coordinating all administrative and clinical workflow. With CareTracker EMR, physicians spend less time on paperwork and focus on the most important part of the equation — the patient.”

According to a recent leadership survey taken by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), implementing technology to reduce medical errors and promote patient safety is the top IT priority both now and for the next two years. Meanwhile, nine of the top 10 healthcare applications identified as being important for the future were clinical systems, with electronic medical records (EMRs) and computerized provider order entry (CPOE) tied as the most important applications.

“For over a year and a half, our practice has been using LighthouseMD’s CareTracker system for managing the administrative and billing aspects of our revenue cycle and practice,” said Dr. Shama, MD, Brookline Village Dermatology, a three-physician practice. “Now that LighthouseMD has added a comprehensive EMR to the CareTracker suite, we are excited to work with them to investigate the next steps. There is no question that implementing this necessary clinical process will improve our efficiency, decrease the cost to our practice and enhance patient safety."
