EDS Awarded $91.7 Million Kansas Medicaid Extension

EDS, the recognized national leader in providing Medicaid services to states, has been awarded a $91.7 million contract extension to continue providing fiscal agent services to the state of Kansas. The contract was awarded to EDS at the end of the fourth quarter of 2006.
 
The Kansas Health Policy Authority exercised its first three-year option on the contract, extending the agreement with EDS until June 30, 2011.

The original $160 million, six-year agreement, announced Feb. 1, 2002, called for EDS to transform the administrative and operational processes that support the state’s Medicaid program. As a result, EDS converted Kansas’ legacy-based Medicaid Management Information System (MMIS) to EDS’ interChange MMIS, which went live in October 2003.

The Kansas interChange system received crucial federal certification from the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in May 2005, retroactive to the first day of operation. The CMS certification ensured federal funding of 75 percent of the new system, saving Kansas taxpayers millions of dollars.

The Kansas interChange system features an EDS fraud and abuse solution called Surveillance and Utilization Review (SUR) Profiler and a Web-based interface that enables medical claims to be filed online and processed much more efficiently.

Approximately 300,000 Kansans receive services each month from the 19,000 health care providers that participate in the state’s Medicaid program.

The contract extension continues EDS’ recognized leadership in the Medicaid field, where its interChange system has served as an industry model. The interChange system currently is in operation in five states and is being implemented in six others.
