The Board of Representatives of Stamford, CT voted earlier this week to block a collection contract between the city and a New York-based collection agency, according to local paper The Stamford Advocate. The city had contracted with Law Enforcement Systems Inc. to collect some $2.5 million in parking ticket fines from tickets issued between 1996 and 2002.

The Advocate states that the primary objection to the contract was not terms of the deal, but rather the length of time that had passed between the issuing of the tickets and collection proceedings. But it appears that local politics played a hand in derailing the agreement.
