U.S. Comptroller of the Currency John Dugan on Monday said lenders have loosened underwriting standards, particularly for residential real estate, and warned banks that regulators would not hesitate to act if they see risk building to unhealthy levels.


“We will be watching, and watching closely, and we will not hesitate to act,” Dugan told an American Bankers Association meeting in California.
