These initiatives are made possible by KM²Cares, the company’s internal corporate social responsibility division. Through KM²Cares, the company has taken initiative to support social and charitable causes focused on health and education.
In April of this year, KM²Cares turned its attention to St. Lucia, aiding the Marchand Primary School in a campaign to end bullying on campus. KM2 volunteers presented two interactive anti-bullying classes to students in the 1st grade and 6th grade. Students were then issued commitment cards after taking a “stop bullying” pledge. Mel Smith, director of the KM²Cares university initiatives, commented, “Programs such as these are designed to help younger generations become more conscious members of their great communities.” KM²Cares had also made considerable donations to the St. Lucia Balata Primary School Library in January.
In Honduras, KM²Cares has been actively supporting OYE: The Organization for Youth Empowerment, which integrates personal development programs and academic scholarships for at-risk Honduran youth. “Although these students haven’t had access to the best resources, they are all incredibly bright and show great potential as future leaders,” says Christy Castro, director of KM²Cares Honduras operation. In partnership with OYE, KM²Cares sponsors these students with high school and university scholarships.
KM2Cares also seeks to empower employees, at every level of the organization, to take action of their own. Camilla Phillip, a tenured KM2 employee, started “Hearts & Pockets”, a charity drive aimed at supporting those affected by natural disasters. Under the KM2Cares banner, she was able to collect 18 baskets of food (about 650 pounds) and over 30 packages of clothing which have been distributed to those in need since the start of the initiative.
