Ascent Healthcare Solutions today announced it has earned MedAssets Supply Chain Systems’ Gold Vendor status. The Gold level is one of the highest vendor designations awarded by MedAssets Supply Chain Systems, a MedAssets company (NASDAQ: MDAS). Ninety-eight vendors were awarded the Gold Vendor designation at the MedAssets Healthcare Business Summit in Las Vegas in March 2008, attended by more than 3,000 healthcare professionals.

The award recognizes outstanding vendors and is based on improving customer savings and customer satisfaction, filing reports and submitting fee schedules in a timely manner, continuous growth in purchase volume, and supporting MedAssets’ philanthropic efforts.

Ascent, which provides reprocessed medical devices to MedAssets customer hospitals and clinics, enables significant supply cost savings and helps maintain patient safety at the highest level through the rigorous screening and testing of each device. The price of a reprocessed device is typically half that of a new device, with further savings to hospitals and clinics realized through the reduction of costs related to disposal of used devices. The use of reprocessed devices also helps divert tonnage from overtaxed landfills, as well as reducing the demand for new materials.

"We are pleased to assist MedAssets in their efforts to provide their customers with safe, cost-effective solutions to their medical device supply needs," said Ascent’s Chief Operating Officer Rick Ferreira. "With the related savings in materials’ disposal costs and the additional benefits in patient safety and environmental stewardship, the use of reprocessed medical devices translates to increased customer satisfaction on many levels."
