The Internal Revenue Service got additional money for enforcement and taxpayer services Thursday as Senate Appropriations Committee backed a $10.7 billion budget for the IRS for the next year.

The panel didn’t consider proposals to prevent the IRS from using private debt collection firms to pursue delinquent tax debts. A House version of the IRS budget had inserted language that would block the funding of the IRS private debt collection initiative.

Sen. Byron Dorgan, (D-ND), said earlier in the week that he may propose a block on private debt collectors when the bill reaches the Senate floor later this year.
