Turns out, it?s Arapahoe County taxpayers who?ll end up footing the bill in the defense of County District Attorney Carol Chambers against allegations that she abused the power of her office in threatening a debt collection attorney.

The tab so far for her legal defense is $70,000. Maass reports $10,000. of the cost will be covered by insurance, but the remaining $60,000. will come from 18th Judicial District funds. Chambers released the costs of her defense Wednesday afternoon.

The three-judge panel investigating the allegations will have 60 days to decide what discipline, if any, Chambers should receive. If the panel finds Chambers guilty, punishment could range from a reprimand to suspension or even disbarment.
