Processing giant First Data (NYSE: FDC) said yesterday that it will be cutting 300 jobs at a call center in Tulsa, OK.  The layoffs are a result of military-focused financial services firm USAA’s decision not to renew a call center contract with First Data.

The Tulsa call center will not be completely shuttered.  The company plans on reducing the total number of employees at the office from 400 to 100, according to the Associated Press.

A First Data spokesperson told local press in a statement, “These decisions are always difficult to make. We thoughtfully evaluated all possible scenarios before coming to this conclusion.”

First Data will continue to handle card processing for USAA at a facility in Omaha, NE.
