ARMing Heroes, the accounts receivable management industry’s non-profit dedicated to serving U.S. military veterans (hence “ARM” in “ARMing”), has announced plans to expand its current Board of Trustees by an additional three members, to a total of seven, not later than September 30, 2011.

The organization has additionally announced the departure of Howard Sorber from the board, effective July 1, 2011.  Mr. Sorber, a Vietnam-era U.S. Army service-disabled veteran, has left to pursue other business interests outside the accounts receivable management industry after a long period of success in the industry and, more recently, in service to ARMing Heroes and its goals.

ARMing Heroes has issued a call for nominations, including self-nominations, from individuals able to offer the organization a combination of the three W’s of non-profit board success: wealth, work, and wisdom.  Ideal board members will possess one (or more) of the following credentials.

  • Any executive or high-level management professional with a major vendor to the accounts receivable management industry
  • Any executive or high-level management professional with a major creditor in the accounts receivable management industry
  • Any attorney with compliance or general industry expertise
  • Any owner of a small or mid-sized collection agency
  • Any parent within the industry of a currently- or recently-deployed person
  • Any person within the industry who can offer a voice that enhances the board’s overall diversity
  • Any person within the industry with a particular affinity for the cause of supporting U.S. military veterans and military families

Board members able to offer significant, ongoing charitable donations to support the organization’s mission to help U.S. military veterans are encouraged to nominate themselves.  Alternately, ARMing Heroes seeks board members who instead may be able to offer mainly a hands-on time commitment toward achievement of organizational goals, including:

  • Partnership Development: Help ARMing Heroes partner with professional associations, large corporations, and conference organizers and manage these relationships.
  • Volunteer Development: Help ARMing Heroes develop and manage a nationwide network of volunteers to attend job fairs and generate job opportunities for veterans and applications from known military-friendly employers in the accounts receivable management industry.
  • Fundraising: Help ARMing Heroes solicit additional donors willing to support U.S. military veterans and military families.

Nominations are being accepted through August 31, 2011.  To indicate your interest in a nomination or to nominate someone else, email info@armingheroes.org with a short letter of interest by July 31, 2011, or contact ARMing Heroes through its website at www.armingheroes.org.

Nick Bernardo, III, founder of ARMing Heroes, commented, “While we are sorry to see Howard Sorber move on, we were extremely happy to have his contributions as a veteran during our crucial, formative years and we cannot thank him enough for what he has done yet again for our country through ARMing Heroes.  Without his guidance and insight, we would not have been able to help those veterans we have helped to date.  While we cannot replace Howard, we do hope to draw some new ideas and people to the board who are able to make a significant contribution now and in the future.  We look forward to hearing from all those interested in a nomination.”

ARMing Heroes was founded and began operating in March, 2009.  The organization’s mission is to serve the needs of U.S. military veterans, including their spouse and children. ARMing Heroes fills a charitable niche by linking people identified with employment, credit, and financial counseling needs with the accounts receivable management industry, an industry uniquely poised to help in these areas.  Persons interested in volunteering their time and others interested in applying for benefits or pledging other forms of support are encouraged to contact the organization at www.armingheroes.org.
