FDCPA and Other Consumer Lawsuit Statistics, August, 16-31, 2010

There were about 535 lawsuits filed under consumer statutes in the second half of August, 2010. Here is an approximate breakdown:

  • 100 Fair Credit Reporting Act
  • 31 Truth in Lending Act
  • 18 Telephone Consumer Protection Act

Summary:

  • Of those cases, there were about 609 unique plaintiffs (including multiple plaintiffs in one suit).
  • Of those plaintiffs, about 160 had sued under consumer statutes before.
  • Combined, those plaintiffs have filed about 1126 lawsuits since 2001
  • Actions were filed in 124 different US District Court branches.
  • About 534 different collection firms and creditors were sued.
